Wangaratta speedway season opener
This saturday night see's the return to racing for the wangaratta motorsports club, after the winter layoff and some major track upgrades, local and interstate drivers alike will be keen to stamp there authority on the tight 400mtr track.
As always the season opener will be headlined by the hard charging Compact Speedcars, with hot favorites Kieth Astrella and Robbie Gordon, keen to show there pace against the new south welshman Gavin Gay. On January 11th the Compacts will Stage the victorian championship at Wangaratta so we expect to see some hot action as drivers dial there cars in.
This year the low slung GP Midgets join us for the first meating, a good field has nominated including geoff and dennis myers and lisa chalcraft.
An excellent field of tin tops are ready to fire early this year with the burgeoning, Vic Sports Sedans showing huge early nominations. Brodie Montague from Geelong club will be keen to show his worth angainst track stallwarts Craig Cottier and Simon Hill, and we are also keen to see how some of our former junior drivers perform as they step up to this fast class. One such Kyle Patton will debut in his newly built au falcon.
Garry Evans will dust the standard sallon Commodore wagon off for a new season of racing up agianst Stewart Dempson, and david burder.
Recent works at the track have seen an extra 5 degrees of camber added and the whole circuit laser levelled, some four truck loads of clay have also been mixed into the mainly granite track.....
